The Herdle White Record Shop opened in November 1979 in Leicester. Originally from Jamaica, White was a DJ on BBC Radio Leicester and gained popularity for playing music from the Caribbean. With people asking him where they could buy the kind of music he played, White saw a business opportunity and opened his record shop, predominantly selling reggae and soca music.
