Musicland

Musicland was established by Lee Gopthal, a Jamaican businessman of Indian heritage, at 230 Portobello Road in Ladbroke Grove in 1966. The shop specialised in Jamaican music, as well as catering for other genres such as rock and pop. Gopthal went on to found another shop, Muzik City, which specialised in Jamaican and African American music. As well as running Musicland and Muzik City, Gopthal was a co-founder of Trojan Records, a label focused on releasing new Jamaican recordings in the UK.
