Sneakers was originally located in Leicester’s Silver Arcade, and was owned by Eidriss Hassam and Leroy Small – the latter better known as DJ SS. The store specialised in dance music, and would often hold in-store events. Sneakers moved to the corner of Charles Street and Humberstone Gate in Leicester, becoming Formation Records and then 5HQ. The store closed in 2009, but the Formation Records label, which was established in 1991, is still releasing music in 2025.
