Tony Monson

Tony Monson has brought new music of black origin to radio listeners for decades. He first started DJing while living in Bermuda in the 1960s, before moving back to his native Britain and working as an offshore radio DJ for many years. He established Solar Radio in 1984, a pirate station that helped push soul, jazz-funk and house music to the masses. He also ran a record shop in Brighton in the 1970s for five years, before establishing a shop called Disc Empire in Chelsea. He still presents shows on Solar FM, now a legal radio station.
